Job Summary

This posting has multiple positions available (Engineer/Senior Engineer/Staff Engineer).

One position is for a material engineer for distribution automation and related padmount switches, padmount reclosers, also overhead reclosers and automation equipment including control relays and communication equipment necessary to connect to our control center. The position involves working directly with our vendors and supply chain team to set specifications, source and test new equipment and automation to be connected to our distribution system.

We have a distribution system voltage that over 80% is 34.5 kV. We use a variety of manufacturers for these products and constantly evaluate the performance of our equipment and perform auditing of existing manufacturers and perform root cause analysis of failed equipment and make necessary changes as required. This position does require some field work and regular lab work when testing and evaluating materials.

One position is for a material engineer for underground cable accessories and associated connectors that are used throughout the distribution system. This position is also responsible for our manholes, vaults and conduit and splice boxes that are also used on our system. Since over 80% of our distribution system is 34.5 distribution voltage we use a variety of vendors for our products.

This position is responsible for approval of new vendors and developing or revising the specifications for these materials to allow them to meet the necessary requirements to allow us to provide a safe and reliable operating system. Since underground equipment is prevalent throughout the system and often fail, this position will spend some time in the field and lab environments performing root cause analysis on failed equipment to allow them to work with vendors on necessary modifications.

These positions are for mid to upper level engineers and the preference is that they have some electrical utility or material experience in a related field. Both positions include travel to manufacturing plants and also utility group meetings as well as trade shows and conferences.
