A well-established industrial company is seeking an Electrical Crane Engineer to join its engineering team in the Greater Richmond, VA area. This is a full-time, salaried,
on-site position offering the opportunity to work on complex lifting equipment projects in a collaborative engineering environment.
In this role, you will be responsible for the electrical design, development, commissioning, and ongoing support of overhead lifting systems. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience with crane electrical systems, motion controls, and industrial automation while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and engineering excellence.
What You'll DoDesign electrical and control systems for overhead lifting equipment and related industrial systems.
- Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using CAD software.
- Select and specify electrical components, drives, controls, and safety devices.
- Perform electrical calculations, power sizing, and control logic development.
- Ensure designs meet applicable industry standards and electrical codes.
Support installation, startup, and commissioning activities.
- Assist field teams during equipment installation and system commissioning.
- Configure and test motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and related control systems.
- Verify system performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
Provide technical support throughout the equipment lifecycle.
- Diagnose electrical and controls‑related issues.
- Recommend and implement solutions that improve reliability and minimize downtime.
- Partner with engineering, project management, and field service teams to deliver successful projects.

Job RequirementsRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of electrical engineering experience supporting overhead crane systems
. - Strong understanding of industrial motor controls, motion control systems, and VFD applications.
- Experience creating and interpreting electrical schematics and control drawings.
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical and crane industry standards.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical control systems in industrial environments.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following will stand out:
- Industrial automation or material handling equipment.
- Electrical control systems for heavy industrial equipment.
- Equipment commissioning and field support.
- Control panel design and PLC/HMI integration.
