As part of the Buildings Group for Garver, this Mechanical Engineer will develop mechanical designs to support various Buildings Design Business Line projects. Responsibilities include leading the planning, design, and commissioning of:
- Building HVAC systems
- Building plumbing systems
- Building fire protection systems
- Whole building energy modeling
- Building sustainability requirements reporting
Additional responsibilities involve coordinating with other support disciplines and regional offices, assisting project managers with project management activities, adhering to quality assurance and quality control plans, and traveling periodically to project sites.
Abilities and attributes needed for this position- Knowledge of mechanical engineering and sustainability principles
- Mentoring and training technical staff
- Interfacing with clients on project design, delivery, and construction
- Managing project budget and schedule compliance
- Overseeing the mechanical design of building projects throughout the project lifecycle (conceptual, design, and construction phases)
- Utilizing BIM design software to produce construction drawings
- Using Microsoft Excel-based calculation tools for design calculations
- Managing multiple assignments concurrently
- Ensuring time management and product quality
- Following quality assurance and quality control plans
- Maintaining continuing education and learning based on project and team needs
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical focus from an ABET-accredited university or college
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam
- 5–10 years of building design and construction industry experience
- Knowledge base of mechanical engineering principles related to building mechanical designs
- Proven experience overseeing mechanical designs, including detailed plans and specifications for building projects
- Technical competence in building mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with Autodesk Revit
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Experience with AIA Master Spec
- Knowledge of federal agencies design criteria
