Designer II/Electrical Designer
Location:
Richmond, VA, 23219 Duration: 12 months Contract with possibility of extension Pay Rate: $50/hr – $57/hr (W2)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Designer to support engineering and construction projects within a non-nuclear power generation environment. The ideal candidate will have strong electrical design and drafting experience, with the ability to prepare and review detailed construction drawings and provide technical support to engineering, project management, and construction teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review detailed electrical engineering drawings supporting power generation projects.
- Develop and modify single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, plan drawings, schematics, and other construction deliverables.
- Provide electrical design support for equipment, cable, raceway, and drawing requirements.
- Coordinate and participate in site visits and perform field work as required.
- Support Project Management and Construction teams with electrical design deliverables.
- Review and provide feedback on peer, vendor, and Architect/Engineer drawing submittals.
- Maintain electrical drawing records in accordance with corporate and compliance requirements.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve design and project-related issues.
- Manage multiple project assignments with minimal supervision.
- Adapt to changing project scope, priorities, and schedules.
- Follow all applicable safety, environmental, engineering, and compliance requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant experience in the power generation industry preferred.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering design and drafting principles.
- Experience preparing detailed electrical construction drawings.
- Strong hands-on experience with Micro Station and AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, regulations, and standards, including NEC, IEEE, and NERC.
- Experience with drawing/document management systems;
Project Wise and Documentum are preferred. - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to independently manage project workloads and deadlines.
Education
- Required:
High School Diploma or GED - Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or another technology-related discipline.

Work Environment
This position will work in both office and power station environments.
The role may involve exposure to:
- Dust, grease, and oil
- Energized electrical equipment/wires
- Fumes
- Heat
- Loud noise
- Outdoor conditions
Travel:
Up to 50%, including occasional overnight site visits based on project requirements.
