OverviewThe Part-Time On-Air Talent/Mixer supports scheduled programming by delivering engaging on-air content, maintaining broadcast continuity, and reinforcing the station’s brand during assigned shifts. This role assists with show preparation, promotional reads, basic content creation, and participation in approved events and remotes. Responsibilities also include airing commercials and promotions, completing traffic logs, conducting EAS tests, and following station and engineering procedures.
Essential Responsibilities- Maintain appropriate on-air continuity during scheduled shifts, including program links, transitions, and pre-recorded segments.
- Support station branding during assigned air times through call letters, positioning statements, approved promotional content, and limited social media posts related to the show.
- Deliver relevant information during scheduled programming blocks, such as time checks, weather, and event mentions, as directed by the Program Director.
- Demonstrate knowledge and enthusiasm for the station’s music format and playlists during on-air shifts.
- Participate in show preparation for assigned air shifts, including limited pre-show planning and occasional aircheck sessions, as scheduled.
- Perform assigned on-air duties during scheduled hours, which may include interviews, reading scripts, and attending station meetings or events when requested and approved in advance.
- Prepare required materials for assigned shows, including reviewing promotion mentions and commercial logs for live reads.
- Represent the station at select promotional or community events when scheduled and approved.
- Create and post limited original content related to the show or station, as assigned and approved, in accordance with company standards.
- Air all commercials and promotional content as scheduled during assigned shifts, in accordance with traffic logs and station guidelines.
- Review and complete traffic logs for assigned programming blocks, and promptly report any discrepancies to station management.
- Conduct Emergency Alert System (EAS) tests during scheduled shifts, as required and directed by station leadership.
- Support remote broadcasts during assigned events by following established station engineering and operational procedures.
- Read and interpret documents such as periodicals and news flashes
- Develop and write creative and/or informative scripts
- Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and effectively manage time
- Ability to apply to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram formats
- Maintain a professional demeanor, excellent communication, effective and entertaining with large listening audiences and while engaging on-air or in person with radio station clients and vendors
- Self-starter with the ability to take and follow directions.
- Work well independently and as an integral part of the team
- Complies with Urban One’s mandatory training and adheres to related course deadlines
- Submit to a criminal background check
- Legal right to work in the United States
1-3 years of on-air commercial radio experience.
Compensation and BenefitsHourly Range: $12.77-$18.00
