Risk Manager/Analyst
Overview
The position involves underwriting credit exposure for Wholesale Banking clients and actively managing a Middle Market or CML portfolio. It includes day-to-day client interaction, managing portfolio risk, and adherence to regulatory and compliance guidelines. A critical component is early identification of emerging credit problems and industry trends.
Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesFollowing is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Underwriting:
Leads the entire commercial underwriting process with prospects and clients. Underwrites and documents all prospect and client transactions. Analyzes company performance, orders real estate valuations, environmental assessments and UCC searches; acts as liaison with Commercial Fulfillment and Commercial Sales Assistant (CSA). Provides independent analysis of financial statements and business plans; identifies and mitigates key risks. Recommends and models loan structures and maintains expertise around the bank’s suite of ancillary products.
Responsible for risk evaluation and related regulatory compliance. May involve specialized underwriting skills for various Truist product offerings. - Portfolio Management:
Manages assigned portfolio by monitoring performance and trends, identifying issues and following through for remediation. Maintains risk rating integrity, annual reviews, financial statement spreading, compliance and regulatory review. Manages amendments and waivers in the portfolio. Maintains anticipatory, forward-focused, independent, transparent and collaborative risk management. - Client Calling Effort:
Works with internal partners to develop solutions that meet client needs and Bank risk criteria. Maintains data integrity of inputs/outputs and updates loan systems information for accuracy. - Span of Control:
No direct reports; maintains regular communication with Clients, Prospects, Portfolio Management teammates, Relationship Managers, Credit Risk Managers, Credit Review partners, Technology, and internal/external audit/examiner functions. - Decision-Making and Autonomy:
Provides independent current and forward-looking risk views on clients within assigned portfolio. Authors independent risk recommendations including risk rating and underwriting; final approval rests with the risk approval officer. - Problem Complexity:
Complex. Manages underwriting and risk for significant client exposure. - Leadership / Influencing / Negotiating / Persuading:
Develops independent viewpoints and provides recommendations to decision makers. Mentors junior talent and collaborates with LOB partners. May lead projects or programs that benefit the PM platform. Delivers solid credit and underwriting analyses and risk rating recommendations; key risk drivers include credit and operational risk.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field and at least 5+ years of related training and experience in commercial credit analysis.
- Mastery level proficiency with MS Office Desktop applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and solid written/verbal communication.
- Sound credit skills; strong attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize workflow and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Has successfully held a similar role with a commercial financial institution or equivalent experience.
- Industry or sub-sector expertise.
- Mastery of Truist Bank operating systems including COMPASS and other commercial applications (e.g., Salesforce, nCino).
