Student Financial Services Specialist

As a Student Financial Services Specialist at Galen College of Nursing, you will provide information, guidance, and assistance regarding various types of financial assistance, including, but not limited to federal financial aid, state aid, workforce agencies, employer payments, and VA benefits, to facilitate the enrollment, persistence, and completion of students, consistent with the College's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and guide active students throughout their program, including contacting current students about missing or incomplete documents, assisting them with completion of forms, reviewing financial aid applications for accuracy, ensuring eligible aid is packaged and disbursed timely, supporting students in the management of additional financing options, creating payment arrangements on term balances, and tracking and documenting completion of Exit Counseling.
  • Provide continued support and education to students and their parents on topics related to Financial Aid, including Title IV Federal Financial Aid, eligibility, financial literacy, and loan repayment.
  • Thoroughly document student communication in the student information system, including email, phone calls, text messages, and meetings.
  • Assist in other phases of financial aid, enrollment, and student support, as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and student information, following guidelines by regulatory bodies such as FERPA, the Department of Education, and other accrediting agencies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of college policies, processes, and relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Attend financial aid training, workshops and seminars, as necessary or requested by the College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Education:

    Minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Experience:

    Experience working with Federal Financial Aid programs preferred; experience working with customer financial accounts preferred.
  • Skills:

    Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong customer service skills; strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects while meeting deadlines; ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times; teamwork and collaboration.
  • Special

    Qualifications:

    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products; ability to secure access to Department of Education websites (e.g., NSLDS, COD, CPS); no prior history of student loan default.
  • Physical/Mental Demands & Work Environment:
    Ability to sit at a computer desk for eight hours each day; availability to work flexible schedule including some evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Degree of Supervision:
    Minimal.
