Financial Reporting Analyst
Position:
Financial Reporting Analyst (Finan Svcs Spec II), VCCS-System Office, Richmond. Full-time, annual salary $90,000–$95,000, exempt, telework option available.
- Assist with planning and coordination of the annual financial reporting preparation and verification process to ensure compliance with GASB, NACUBO, and AICPA requirements.
- Analyze and evaluate management recommendations of external and internal audit reports, determine issues and deficiencies, and evaluate and approve college responses.
- Analyze and evaluate internal controls of the VCCS.
- Ensure the VCCS Chart of Accounts supports internal and external reporting requirements.
- Conceptualize, formulate, and implement policies, procedures, and methodologies to ensure conformance with all reporting requirements.
- Prepare accounting entries, prepare budget-specific journal entries, reconcile accounts, and assist colleges with reconciliation questions.
- Prepare financial statement footnotes, journal entries, and provide general assistance with the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Interpret administrative policies and procedures, exercise independent judgment, and make sound business decisions.
- Effectively manage time and work on multiple assignments; work well with various levels of management and staff in a diverse environment; troubleshoot and resolve problems; work effectively in team and independently.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including assistance during emergencies.
- Knowledge – In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, and governmental accounting standards; working knowledge of complex automated financial systems such as People Soft or other Oracle-based programs; financial statement preparation experience; general knowledge of higher education and applicable federal and state guidelines; knowledge of federal programs including federal cash‑management standards.
- Skills – Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel and Word; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; excellent customer‑service skills.
- Abilities – Analyze financial data; prepare accounting entries; prepare budget‑specific journal entries; reconcile accounts; prepare financial statement footnotes, journal entries, and provide general assistance with the ACFR; interpret administrative policies; exercise independent judgment; make sound business decisions; manage time and work on multiple assignments; work effectively with various levels of management; troubleshoot and resolve problems; work effectively in a team environment;
work independently.
- Working knowledge of People Soft or Cardinal accounting systems.
- Experience preparing consolidated financial statements.
- Higher education or state or local government general accounting experience.
- CPA or CPA candidate.
