Financial Technician
Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) is seeking a Financial Technician. As a member of the Dean’s Office finance team, this position will establish and maintain strong professional and collaborative relationships and lines of communication between the departments and units in order to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures related fiscal and business operations. This position reports to the Senior Executive Director of Finance and duties include the administration of procurement, finance and budget support for all School of the Arts programs.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Provide fiscal administrative support by preparing and processing procurement and travel and expense reimbursements
- Submit purchase orders through VCU Real Source and create P card purchases
- Prepare and process deposits from multiple revenue sources to multiple department entities
- Respond to and resolve issues regarding invoices, receiving, and other A/P related matters in a professional, courteous, timely, and accurate manner
- Provide immediate and accurate data and information to the Senior Executive Director of Finance, department Chairs and Senior Directors, faculty, staff and students regarding all fiscal matters
- Perform transaction processing including but not limited to: revenue deposits, electronic purchase requisitions, journal vouchers, P card transactions, travel arrangements/reimbursements, personal reimbursements, contract processing, monthly and annual account reconciliations, back up duties, and special projects
- Utilize Banner, Real Source, and other financial systems
- Provide finance related customer service and operational support typically to assigned academic units
- Work content typically includes more than one functional area such as accounting, budget, payroll, procurement, or treasury and may include more long-range assignments such as resource planning and forecasting
- Manage department and faculty purchase requests; assist with travel arrangements and reports; manage all Banner financial transactions; analyze expenditures; track faculty funding, including grants and contracts; and reconcile and maintain transaction records.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field or an equivalent combination of college and related experience.
- Exceptional verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain favorable external and internal relationships with department offices in the School of the Arts that this position will interact with on a routine basis.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively and positively interact with a wide range of colleagues, including unit- and group-level leadership, faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to use office automation, Microsoft Word, Excel (advanced level), and basic software.
- Experience with account reconciliations and allocations.
- Ability to analyze and interpret budget and financial reports and data.
- Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple priorities simultaneously while attending to details and meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently and use available resources.
- Ability to interpret university and state policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Strategic and analytical thinker who exhibits engagement, creativity, problem solving skills and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do as a staff member at VCU.
- Specialized experience in budgeting, accounting, or related field.
- Familiarity with the unique nature and complexity of Commonwealth of Virginia public institution financial and business operations.
- Experience working with vendors who provide unique services based in performance/musical arts/instrument technology/singers/performance facilities
- Experience with Banner and SAS systems.
