Capital One is seeking an energetic, self‑motivated Risk Manager to join the newly created Network Participant Risk Management (NPRM) Team within the Operational Risk Management second line of defense.
The NPRM team’s mission is to establish and launch a second line of defense Network Participant Risk Oversight program, providing governance, oversight, and effective challenge for the risks presented by Network Participants such as issuers, acquirers, and network alliances.
The Risk Manager will drive the NPRM Program through testing, monitoring, and effective challenge of first line risk‑taking decisions and activities, ensuring our businesses maintain a sustainable and holistic operational risk profile.
Responsibilities- Support development and execution of the NPRM testing and monitoring strategy.
- Perform testing & monitoring of the first line network participant risk management, including detailed data analysis to identify risks, problem areas, and development/completion of remediation plans.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to Business Risk Office (BRO) and Independent Risk Management (IRM) functions in the assessment of operational risk.
- Effectively challenge and provide thought‑leadership guidance for implementing Network Participant risk management practices.
- Support management and ownership of related policies and/or standards within the Network Participant Risk Oversight Program.
- Execute challenge activities to identify elevated areas of suspected risk and obtain assurance that risk‑taking groups represent their control environments appropriately.
- Document and communicate results of challenge activities; perform and support detailed validation data analysis, including trending, problem identification, and remediation plan development/completion.
- Consult on Issue/Event analysis and reporting functions to observe trends and provide insights on changes to the Network Participant risk environment.
- Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across multiple organizations to achieve objectives.
- Demonstrate problem‑solving and analysis skills with attention to detail.
- Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, problem‑solving, and influencing skills across various levels of the organization.
- Balance multiple priorities to drive business value and support team objectives, while managing tasks and activities related to risk management initiatives.
- Assist in developing risks, issues, and/or mitigation plans so the business implements needed changes and addresses areas of exposure.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification.
- At least 4 years of risk management experience within the financial services industry.
- At least 2 years of payment network experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in third‑party risk or risk governance oversight.
- At least 2 years of risk management, compliance, or legal oversight experience.
- 5+ years of Project or Program Management experience leading cross‑functional programs in Risk.
- Experience creating presentations with PowerPoint or Google Slides.
- Risk management certification such as Certified Third‑Party Risk Professional (CTPRP).
Capital One offers a competitive salary range and performance‑based incentive compensation. Salary ranges by location are as follows:
- Riverwoods, IL: $138,100 - $157,700
- McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400
- New York, NY: $165,700 - $189,200
- Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700
