OverviewThe State Corporation Commission (SCC) seeks a Student Loan Servicer Examiner with a passion for public service and protecting the public interest in Virginia by helping to maintain a safe, sound, and competitive financial services environment. Joining the Bureau of Financial Institutions (Bureau), the Student Loan Servicer Examiner will conduct and assist in the examinations of qualified education loan servicers ("licensee").
The Student Loan Servicer Examiner will review transactions (loans and agreements), operations, financial statements, policies and procedures. This position requires travel in and out of state (up 25% of the time). - Conduct and assist on examinations of licensed qualified education loan servicers
- Travel in and out of state to conduct examinations
- Review transactions (loans and agreements), operations, financial statements, policies and procedures, and information technology for compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations
- Compile information for review by Examiner-in-Charge (EIC) and inclusion in the Report of Examination (ROE)
- Discuss findings with licensee’s staff, EIC, or other Bureau staff and make regulatory recommendations
- Assist and learn from more senior analysts during examinations and investigations
- Perform related work as required
- Professional work experience in student loan servicing, financial aid, and/or in financial auditing and examination
- Without related work experience, a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, or a related field is a minimum qualification
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles
- Knowledge of the student loan servicing industry and state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to student loan servicers is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Share Point
- Strong organizational skills and a high level of written and verbal skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to analyze information and form logical, well-reasoned conclusions
- Ability to manage tasks independently, be self-motivated, and to work effectively on team-based examinations
- Ability to travel in and out of state and to adapt easily to changing work environments
- Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with SCC staff, examiners from other state agencies, and industry personnel
