Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health Profession's (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.

This accountant position will perform a variety of fiscal duties in the Finance Department. The objective of this position is to process all financial transactions timely and accurately in compliance with agency, state, and federal policies and procedures; provide accurate, timely, responsive, and effective financial and analytical information to support the planning and decision-making for sound financial management and to meet the legal and regulatory requirements of the Commonwealth.

This is a wage (hourly) position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours during the 12 month period of May 1 - April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period.

Minimum Qualifications

* Basic knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

* Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

* Working knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.

* Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data.

* Demonstrated ability to apply, interpret, or assess existing policies, procedures, laws, and regulations with potentially considerable financial or operational impact on the agency, program participants, and the general public.

* Demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external customers using both verbal and written skills to prepare reports and discuss financial processes or issues requiring effective communication skills.

* Ability to make independent and logical decisions and/or recommendations.

* Ability to manage time and assignments to effectively meet deadlines, multi-task, and work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, automated environment.

* Ability to provide project or team leadership.

* Proficient in the use of all MS Office Suite applications, specifically Excel and Word.
