The Ophthalmic Technician Specialist works up patients for physicians that includes taking medical history, performing initial examination and completing diagnostic testing.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire- Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) certification at least at the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) level.
- CPR;
Must obtain Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Technologist (COMT) within 18 months of hire.
- REQUIRED:
Two (2) years of experience performing initial ophthalmic examinations and diagnostic testing.
- Four (4) years of experience in academic medical environment preferred.
- REQUIRED:
High School Diploma / GED - PREFERRED:
Bachelor s Degree in Health Science or related field.
- Takes medical history, performs initial examination and diagnostic testing independently.
