Job Overview

- Manage expectations of the department and surgeons.
- Provide a safe environment for the surgical patient during the perioperative experience.
- Maintain aseptic technique and create/maintain sterile fields.
- Plan equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
- Demonstrate competency in assisting surgeons within unit scope of care.
- Assist and educate the scrub team on unfamiliar procedures or surgeon preferences.
- Promote cost containment while delivering quality patient care.
- Serve as a professional member of the surgical team.
- Engage in continuing education, seminars and services for professional growth.
- Treat physicians and patients as customers, respecting time and space for concerns.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor with staff, patients, and management.
- Show flexibility by covering call and staffing needs with OR management.
- Assist staff with room preparation, turnover and stocking of rooms and carts.
- Exercise sound judgment and decision‑making for patients and colleagues.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, supporting the hospital mission.
- Perform additional functions within Surgical Services as needed.
- Maintain compliance in mandatory annual educational requirements.
- Keep all active licenses and certifications required by law.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within 30 days of employment start date.
- Vocational School Graduate.
- (SA) Surgical Assistant or (CSA) Certified Surgical Assistant.
