• Manage expectations of the department and surgeons.
• Provide a safe environment for the surgical patient during the perioperative experience.
• Maintain aseptic technique and create/maintain sterile fields.
• Plan equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
• Demonstrate competency in assisting surgeons within unit scope of care.
• Assist and educate the scrub team on unfamiliar procedures or surgeon preferences.
• Promote cost containment while delivering quality patient care.
• Serve as a professional member of the surgical team.
• Engage in continuing education, seminars and services for professional growth.
• Treat physicians and patients as customers, respecting time and space for concerns.
• Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor with staff, patients, and management.
• Show flexibility by covering call and staffing needs with OR management.
• Assist staff with room preparation, turnover and stocking of rooms and carts.
• Exercise sound judgment and decision‑making for patients and colleagues.
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, supporting the hospital mission.
• Perform additional functions within Surgical Services as needed.
• Maintain compliance in mandatory annual educational requirements.
• Keep all active licenses and certifications required by law.

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within 30 days of employment start date.
• Vocational School Graduate.
• (SA) Surgical Assistant or (CSA) Certified Surgical Assistant.
