Job Summary and Responsibilities
- Knows, understands, and applies general lab policies/procedures as well as department/section specific policies/procedures; reviews all posted policy changes as required; adheres to all regulatory guidelines.
- Assesses situations, considers options, and formulates appropriate courses of action; performs duties independently with little or no supervision; can assume “tech‑in‑charge” duties and direct staff when necessary.
- Demonstrates initial and annual competency in all appropriate designated lab sections within set deadlines; accurately performs proficiency testing; participates in continuing education activities.
- Completes all facility/corporate mandatory annual training within set deadlines.
- Assists laboratory team with miscellaneous duties such as specimen receiving and putting away supplies.
- Effectively organizes and completes daily tasks in assigned area(s).
- Troubleshoots/resolves instrument problems and documents corrective action; performs instrumentation repairs when necessary; investigates/resolves specimen collection problems using Outstanding Specimen Report (OSR) and specimen tracking tools.
- Ensures quality control is properly performed and logged; maintains work within quality control limits and trends; follows department procedure for corrective action.
- Performs preventative maintenance and safety checks of equipment according to schedule.
- Trains new employees and/or students in general lab policies/procedures and department/section specific policies/procedures.
What qualifications you will need:
Experience- Preferred:
Experience as Medical Laboratory Technician.
- Required:
Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biological, Chemical or Physical Science. Nursing Degree considered with required CLIA acceptable courses. - Preferred:
Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science.
- Required:
Successful completion of registry within 12 months of hire for anyone hired on or after 1.1.2005. Continuing education to maintain registry/licensure as required. ASCP or AMT accepted. - Acceptable:
Registry/Licensure in a specialty area will be considered. - Preferred: ASCP/AMT/NCA/HEW certification with continuing education to maintain registry/licensure as required.
