CRi, a leading non-profit serving Northern VA, Richmond, and Maryland, is hiring Behavioral Health Technician Assistants (BHT-A) to support individuals with mental health needs in our Mental Health Group Home. This entry-level but impactful role provides direct care and support, ensuring the well-being and recovery of individuals in a therapeutic residential setting.

Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Technician Assistant (BHT-A) works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide collaborative behavioral health services, daily support, and crisis intervention. This role is designed for candidates starting in the behavioral health field and is a pathway to growth into a registered Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) role.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

Client Care

  • Provide direct care, supervision, and support to individuals with mental health needs.
  • Assist individuals with daily living activities, personal care, and community integration.
  • Support implementation of treatment and recovery plans under the guidance of clinical staff.

Behavioral Support

  • Use de-escalation and crisis intervention strategies when needed.
  • Promote a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment.

Medication & Health Support

  • Assist in supporting medication routines under the direction of nursing staff.
  • Monitor and report changes in health, mood, or behavior to the clinical team.

Documentation & Communication

  • Maintain accurate daily notes and activity records.
  • Communicate effectively with nurses, QMHPs, and program staff about individual progress.

Team Collaboration

  • Participate in team meetings and trainings to enhance professional skills.
  • Work alongside nurses, clinicians, and program managers to ensure coordinated care.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent required;
    Associate degree preferred. Evidence of completion of 20 hours of didactic education in a program recognized or approved by the board.
  • Registration:
    Must be registered (or eligible for registration) with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a Behavioral Health Technician Assistant (BHT-A) per SB403 guidelines.
  • Experience:

    Previous experience in human services, mental health, or residential care preferred but not required.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Strong communication, patience, and compassion for individuals with behavioral health needs.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting and assisting during interventions.
