Secretary Responsibilities
The Unit Secretary performs a variety of clerical tasks involved in preparing, maintaining and processing patient and unit activities, data, and records. Job duties may include handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
Unit Secretaries work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with the Nurse Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work, may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing requirements or the best interest of the work unit.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a Medical Terminology course.
- Previous experience setting up and maintaining an office system (organizational skills).
- Previous experience with medical insurance, MIS, and medical terminology.
- Previous experience in a health care setting.
- Previous experience with Microsoft Office software.
- Previous experience with the use of EMR.
- Education/training related to medical terminology (preferred).
- Independent action:
Able to perform daily activities with minimal supervision; self‑directed in the accomplishment of routine activities. - Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speaking, legible writing, reading, logical thinking, emotional resilience, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, working in a noisy environment, ability to adapt to frequent change.
