Overview
The Imaging Modality Manager is responsible for enterprise-wide oversight of assigned modality(s) at all health system locations to ensure consistency and standardization for imaging protocols, required staff competencies and training, modality-specific policies, and equipment selection. This role provides day-to-day management and supervision for assigned Radiology modalities and locations (e.g., Diagnostic, Fluoro, US, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine/PET, IR, BI), including human resources management;
operations; relationship development; financial/budget management; legal and regulatory compliance; strategic planning; and capital equipment planning and installation oversight.
The Imaging Modality Manager ensures that all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed by qualified staff, are of the highest quality, and follow radiation safety principles (e.g., ALARA, ACR Guidelines for MRI Safety) and other applicable professional guidelines. This role collaborates with location managers to ensure consistent practices across all modality locations and ensures compliance with VCU and VCUHS policies and procedures.
Responsibilities- Work directly with supervisors to resolve problems, workflow, customer service, and human resource issues.
- Implement new initiatives, programs, and policies.
- Collaborate with other Imaging Managers, Faculty and staff to maintain high department safety, quality, and teamwork.
- Manage clinical functions and processes for assigned Radiology areas through supervisors, lead technologists, and staff; ensure daily clinical operation with a focus on safety, efficiency, high quality, and cost-effective care.
- Oversee, maintain, and improve business functions and processes related to areas of responsibility.
- Current Certification by ARRT or NMTCB or ARRT (N) for Nuclear Medicine/PET Management, or ARRT (S) in applicable specialties (e.g., Mammography, CT, MRI, QM, ARDMS, RCIS/RCES, ARRT CV/VI, PET, NC (Nuclear Cardiology), CRA).
- Certification/Registry required for hire and one of the following advanced certifications (exception Diag/Fluoro Mgr): ARRT in Mammography, CT, MRI, QM; ARDMS Specialty; ARRT CV or VI or CI; PET or NC (Nuclear Cardiology); CRA.
- Minimum of four (4) years of progressively more responsible Diagnostic Radiology supervisory/management experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of technical experience.
- Experience preferred:
Seven (7) years of progressively more responsible supervisory/management experience in the areas to be managed; prior work in an academic medical center environment.
- Required:
Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology;
Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Radiation Science or closely related field (for managers hired after 7/1/2012). - Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Health Administration or closely related field.
All day-to-day operations and leadership of staff. Seek advice/guidance from the Associate Director and/or Director as needed, especially when there is a major impact on the activity of the section. With guidance from health system resources, seek advice/guidance for termination of employees, handling grievances, reviewing annual goals and budget, and approving section guidelines and procedures, as well as reviewing staff performance evaluations.
SupervisoryResponsibilities
All employees (except faculty) in assigned Radiology location report to this position; supervisory responsibilities may be delegated as appropriate.

Rotational responsibilities of Manager on-call for the Department of Radiology.
