Position SummaryThe HIS Director / EMR Supervisor is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and oversight of the Health Information Services (HIS) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. This role ensures the integrity, accuracy, security, and accessibility of medical records while supporting clinical and administrative staff in the effective use of the EMR. The position serves as a key member of the administrative team and works collaboratively with leadership, compliance, IT, and clinical departments to support quality patient care and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Administrative Functions:- Serve as a consultant on the Facility Administrative Team.
- Recommend changes in administrative policies to improve operational effectiveness.
- Advise the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Compliance on medical records operations and departmental contributions.
- Provide regular updates to leadership on EMR implementation, functionality, and performance.
- Participate in facility and medical staff committee meetings as required.
- Represent the facility in professional, civic, and community organizations as directed.
- Serve as the facility EMR Super-User.
- Provide on-site troubleshooting and support for EMR-related issues.
- Coordinate with the EMR vendor and IT department to resolve system issues.
- Train new employees on EMR usage, workflows, and login access.
- Collaborate with department subject matter experts to support daily EMR operations.
- Identify, report, and help resolve EMR system problems.
- Oversee daily operations of the Medical Records Department.
- Supervise staff to ensure timely completion of medical records activities and projects.
- Ensure secure, accurate, and compliant management of patient health information.
- Maintain compliance with all federal and state regulations, including HIPAA.
- Process and oversee medical record requests.
- Serve as liaison between medical staff and external agencies.
- Generate and analyze EMR reports related to completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Provide performance data and metrics to Compliance and leadership teams.
- Participate in quality improvement and compliance initiatives.
- Masters' degree in Social Work, Healthcare Administration, Psychology or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working in a mental health or social services setting.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of Health Information Management or Medical Records experience.
- Must have experience using Welligent EMR (medical records system).
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of EMR systems and healthcare regulations.
- Strong leadership, organizational, time management and communication skills.
