We are currently recruiting for a Water Microbiology Scientist to support the Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS). This role performs laboratory work focused on water microbiology testing and supports the Commonwealth’s public and environmental health compliance programs.

The selected candidate will be responsible for testing potable water in public water systems and recreational waters for bacterial contamination, while ensuring accurate data reporting and compliance with laboratory safety standards.

• Perform high-volume microbiological testing of potable and recreational water samples
• Conduct bacterial testing to support public and environmental health programs
• Review, analyze, and report laboratory testing data accurately
• Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records and documentation
• Follow established laboratory safety procedures and protocols
• Ensure compliance with laboratory standards and testing procedures
• Work efficiently in a high-volume testing environment
• Perform laboratory duties independently with minimal supervision

• Knowledge of laboratory safety practices
• Previous laboratory experience
• Ability to perform high-volume bacterial testing with accuracy
• Ability to review and report laboratory data
• Strong record-keeping and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

• Experience with potable water, wastewater, microbiology, or inorganic laboratory testing

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times.
• Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
• Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
