The Physical Therapist Clinician II is primarily responsible for the delivery of physical therapy care to the patient population to which she/he is assigned and the recording of that care in the hospital medical record. The therapist acts as a consultant to various patient populations and provides instruction to OT/PT support staff, PT students, personnel of other disciplines, and patient/family members.
Therapists may rotate through various clinical service areas.
- Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist.
- Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist.
- Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area.
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Physical Therapist.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Physical Therapy.
- Masters or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy (preferred).
- Successful challenge of the VCUHS Physical Therapy Clinical Ladder.
- Patient evaluation and implementation of intervention programs, including discharge planning.
- Ordering equipment (as required).
- Representing the department at rounds and discharge conferences.
- Scheduling and charging patients.
- May have supervisory responsibilities of Physical Therapist Assistants, Patient Care Technicians, students, and volunteers.
- Employee is a senior member of a self‑directed team and applies knowledge and experience in daily clinic problem solving.
- The team will bring unresolved issues to the departmental manager for assistance and guidance.
Position Requirements
- Expected to share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations or have a fluctuation of daily work hours from 8 AM to 7 PM based on patient population needs.
- Age specific groups served:
Pediatrics, Adolescence, Adult, Geriatric.
- Physical:
Lifting 50‑100 lbs. Frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), repetitive motion. - Mental/Sensory:
Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking. - Emotional:
Fast‑pace environment, steady pace, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, ability to adapt to frequent change.
