Responsibilities
  • The Human Resources Manager serves as a key member of the Human Resources leadership team at Tidewater Community College. This position provides direct support to the Associate Vice President of Human Resources (AVP) and functions as the primary backup in the AVP’s absence.
  • The Human Resources Manager oversees critical HR functions including benefits administration, employee relations, and training and development.
  • The role ensures HR operations are delivered with excellence, consistency, and compliance with Commonwealth of Virginia policies, VCCS guidelines, and TCC procedures.
  • Special Assignments:
    May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in human resources management, including benefits, employee relations, and training and development.
  • Knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong professional writing skills. Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience conducting investigations and resolving workplace issues.
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs.
  • Proficiency with HR information systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience at the supervisory level in an HR program.
Additional Considerations
  • Experience working in higher education or public-sector HR.
  • Familiarity with and ability to interpret Commonwealth of Virginia, VCCS, and TCC policies and procedures.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR).
