Job Duties

The VDOE Office of Human Resources is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Senior Classification & Compensation Analyst. The position is a Hourly/Wage position. Hourly/Wage employees may not work more than on average 29 hours a week and cannot exceed 1500 hours the wage employment year (5/1 - 4/30). This position does not include health insurance, retirement or paid leave benefits.

  • Implement classification and compensation methods that effectively meet agency needs; review and analyze compensation action requests and ensure compliance with salary action plan requirements and internal equity.
  • Assist in the creation of EWP templates to ensure consistency and accurate benchmarking of positions for salary reviews and ensure equitable compensation across the agency.
  • Help ensure accurate and consistent FLSA practices among roles within VDOE and support the agency’s retention practices within a classification and compensation structure while ensuring DHRM/VDOE policy compliance.
  • Provide direct assistance to HR staff and operational staff agency-wide on aspects of compensation management and job classification. Serve as leader on large compensation and classification studies, interpret and apply applicable policies and regulations, and analyze pay actions to identify trends and assess strengths and weaknesses in current systems/methods/training.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge of HR and compensation principles, policies, and procedures; especially in the areas of classification/compensation management, position assessment, policy interpretation, pay factor analysis, and FLSA.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing efficient, effective, fact-based, and defensible consultation to all levels of agency management and employees; interpreting HR policies and offering alternatives to meet internal customer goals; conducting job analyses (i.e. position assessments) utilizing defined methodologies and pay factors; conducting trend and gap analyses; and communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Experience in data gathering; providing recommendations/consultation to managers; working with sensitive and/or politically ambiguous situations; and professionally dealing with diverse opinions.
  • Experience with Cardinal or other HRIS Systems.
Additional Considerations
  • Extensive experience in job evaluation and position classification, and in developing, promoting, and implementing innovative compensation strategies is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth of VA classification and compensation policy/programs is preferred.
