Job Description

MECC is seeking to fill the position of Manager of Information Technology / Chief Information Officer (CIO). The role is responsible for managing an evolving information technology department that supports academic, student, and administrative technology needs, ensuring high-quality and professional services to all customers, and ensuring proper functionality of services and hardware related to the network and computing activities for MECC and its global environment.

Responsibilities include legal compliance, system performance, long-range planning, and budgeting. The Manager of Information Technology reports to the Vice President of Financial & Administrative Services and supervises the Center for Computing & Information Technology (CCIT) staff. The role includes preparing and managing the college technology plan and budget, overseeing IT audits and audit responses, providing leadership in multiple functional areas, and participating in college and VCCS IT planning and implementation committees and work groups.

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the day-to-day operations of the Center for Computing & Information Technology (CCIT).
  • Prepare and manage the college technology plan and budget.
  • Oversee IT audits and prepare responses to audit findings.
  • Provide direct supervision of IT staff.
  • Lead in multiple functional areas to ensure security and functionality of the college network; keep systems up-to-date technologically and legally.
  • Participate in college and VCCS committees and work groups related to IT planning and implementation.

  • Working knowledge of planning, installing, and maintaining Windows Servers in an Active Directory environment.
  • Working knowledge of computer security practices.
  • Ability to create, update, and manage Technical Services Policies and Procedures documentation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Ability to explain technical problems and recommend solutions.
  • Experience developing budgeting and strategic planning regarding technology master plans.
  • Maintains professional demeanor and confidentiality.
  • Desire and ability to learn new systems and stay current with technological advancements.
Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • Related technical experience in Information Technology or related field, which may be substituted by a higher education degree in IT from an accredited college/university, or a combination of experience and education.
  • Progressive experience with managing an IT department and/or IT project management.
  • Proficient in latest technology for IT systems and management.
  • Broad technical knowledge of computing environments, networking, domains, operating systems, protocols, and communications.

  • A higher education degree in IT or a related field from an accredited college or university.
