Central Virginia Community College is seeking an Information Technology Helpdesk Specialist to provide routine user assistance and support for computer software, hardware, and audio/visual equipment. The role involves troubleshooting, installing equipment, maintaining documentation, and coordinating IT projects such as lab reloads, hardware upgrades, and audio/visual setups.
Responsibilities- Respond to IT work requests, primarily routine user assistance and support for computer software, hardware repair, and maintenance.
- Document problem resolution/status, forward more complex issues to higher-level staff.
- Install computers and associated peripherals, perform software upgrades.
- Create and maintain user tips, instructions, procedures to streamline tasks performed by other IT staff.
- Assist IT staff in problem resolution and coordination of IT projects, including lab reloads, hardware upgrades, and AV setup.
- Perform ad‑hoc duties as assigned, including emergency support during state emergencies if called upon.
- Working knowledge of installation, planning, repair, and maintenance of computers, peripherals, and desktop software including Microsoft Office and audio/visual equipment.
- Experience with local area networks and troubleshooting methods/procedures.
- Knowledge of diagnostic hardware and software tools.
- Experience working with Windows operating systems.
- AAS in Computer Information Systems or related field (substitutions allowed via equivalent training/experience).
- Office schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (hours may vary). - Non‑exempt; no telework options.
- No supervisory responsibilities.
- Minimal travel.
- No state vehicle operation required.
