Senior Data Governance Analyst

Data Governance (DG) provides enterprise-wide data standards, common vocabulary, and usage standards. It enables Markel to integrate, synchronize and consolidate data from different departments, communicate effectively through shared terms, and exchange data with other organizations.

Senior Data Governance Analysts (Sr DGA) lead data governance efforts by partnering with business stakeholders to drive conformance and standardization of data concepts, verify adherence to Markel Data Standards and DG framework, and develop and deliver data governance policies and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of the Data Governance Team supporting execution of data governance processes to rationalize and conform data concepts
  • Document requirements and source-to-target mapping of conformed values
  • Perform data analysis associated with data governance projects
  • Design and develop data models, frameworks and other data structures
  • Educate others on data governance topics
  • Draft data governance policies and standards
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings and drive them to solutions
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders across business units to gain buy‑in on data strategy and best practices
  • Lead additional strategic projects such as Reference Data Management and Master Data Management
  • Partner with Product Owners to align data governance strategy with program objectives
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of relevant experience, strong business analytics skills, and proven ability to communicate across departments
  • Leadership and problem‑solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships with internal clients and gain consensus across groups and seniority levels
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including preparing executive materials
  • Bachelor’s degree
