Scrum Master

As a Scrum Master, you serve as a servant leader and facilitator for 2-3 Agile teams, ensuring effective implementation of Scrum and Kanban principles.

Job Description

The Scrum Master will operate as a Servant Leader and facilitator for 2-3 Agile teams, ensuring the effective implementation of Scrum and Kanban principles. The successful candidate will be a strong negotiator, have excellent logic and problem‑solving skills, and a drive to make a difference. They will put the team before themselves, enforce Scrum rules, remove impediments, promote self‑management, and consistently drive a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as liaison between technical and non‑technical departments.
  • Communicate with management, developers, product owners and technical support specialists on product issues.
  • Coach the team on best practices (maintaining a healthy backlog, developing high‑quality user stories, estimating and delivery).
  • Organize and facilitate project planning, daily stand‑up meetings, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos, and other Scrum‑related meetings.
  • Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress.
  • Maintain process documentation.
  • Ensure team members practice core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, accountability and visibility.
  • Assist with backlog maintenance and reviewing quality of user stories.
  • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
  • Assist with prioritization and resolution of defects/bugs.
  • Participate proactively in developing and maintaining team working agreements, standards, and tools.
  • Develop and manage team performance metrics, leveraging them to drive efficiencies in the process.
  • Identify and remove impediments, preventing distractions.
  • Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution.
  • Empower the team to self‑organize.
Qualifications
  • Four‑year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design or computer science, or 10 years equivalent work experience.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification required.
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience and certification is a plus.
  • Preferred Scrum Master or Business Analyst experience.
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies, values, and procedures.
  • Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Understanding of the organization’s development platform and languages.
  • Ability to understand technical issues.
  • Self‑motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities and tasks as delegated.
  • Team‑player with the ability to work within a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse personality types.
  • Ability to coach the team to reach their highest potential.
  • Creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time‑critical problems.
  • Collaborative in driving decisions.
  • Ability to deal with multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail.
