ABOUTTHE ROLE
Join as a Data Analyst / Power BI Developer, supporting the agency’s data analytics and performance management function. In this hybrid, contract-based role, you will empower program staff across various human services programs by designing, developing, and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports. You will play a key part in the agency’s migration to Power BI as the enterprise analytics platform, working closely with program, policy, and IT teams to translate business requirements into actionable reporting solutions.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful, data-driven initiatives while gaining exposure to a broad range of social services data and modern analytics tools.
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to support program performance monitoring and operational decision‑making across divisions
- Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, transform, and load data from agency source systems and databases
- Collaborate with program staff, policy teams, and IT to understand data requirements and translate them into clear, actionable reporting solutions
- Support the client's migration toward Power BI as the enterprise analytics platform, in alignment with the client's Microsoft stack adoption
- Maintain and update existing reports, data models, and documentation as business needs evolve
- Perform data validation and quality assurance to ensure accuracy and consistency across reporting outputs
- Assist with ad hoc data pulls, analysis, and presentation materials for agency leadership
- Participate in agile‑style sprint planning and project status meetings with IT and program stakeholders
- 2–4 years of experience in a data analyst or BI developer role
- Proficiency in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query (M language), data modeling, and report/dashboard development
- Solid SQL skills with experience querying relational databases (SQL Server preferred)
- Experience gathering requirements from non‑technical stakeholders and translating them into reporting deliverables
- Ability to work independently in a government or public sector environment with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be eligible to pass a background check
- Experience supporting a state or local government agency, health and human services program, or similar regulated environment (preferred)
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure data services (Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, or Azure Synapse) (preferred)
- Experience with data systems (e.g., VIEW, VACIS, Data Warehouse) (preferred)
- Experience with Excel-based reporting, pivot tables, and data wrangling (preferred)
- Microsoft Power BI certification (PL-300 or equivalent) is a plus
- Exposure to a broad range of social services data and modern analytics tools
- Collaborative work environment with program, policy, and IT teams
- Potential for contract extension based on performance and agency needs
