- Design, install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases across development, testing, and production environments.
- Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.
- Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability, and security.
- Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies.
- Design and implement failover clustering in Microsoft Windows/SQL.
- Perform capacity planning and storage management.
- Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to optimize queries and database structures.
- Automate routine database tasks using scripts and tools.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks and data integrity problems.
- Maintain documentation related to database configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance to cross‑functional teams.
- Pass CJIS Level 4, FBI, and Virginia State Police background checks.
- Strong proficiency in SQL database design and administration, including T‑SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and performance tuning.
- Ability to diagnose, analyze, and resolve complex operational and security issues for Microsoft technologies.
- Knowledge of identity, security, compliance, and Zero Trust concepts within enterprise infrastructure solutions.
- Experience designing and implementing automation to improve operational efficiency and reporting.
- Experience evaluating and implementing platform changes driven by industry, vendor roadmap updates, and business/user requirements.
- Effective communication skills and ability to present findings to diverse teams.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure SQL and AWS RDS.
- Experience as a senior SQL Server DBA in an enterprise production environment.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2019 and newer), including SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
- Experience with high‑availability (HA) and disaster‑recovery (DR) solutions such as Always On, Log Shipping, Geo‑clustering, and Replication.
- Experience with Power Shell or other scripting languages.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Additional duties may be assigned as required.
- Possible assistance to the agency or state government during emergency declarations.
