• Design, install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases across development, testing, and production environments.
• Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.
• Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability, and security.
• Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies.
• Design and implement failover clustering in Microsoft Windows/SQL.
• Perform capacity planning and storage management.
• Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to optimize queries and database structures.
• Automate routine database tasks using scripts and tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks and data integrity problems.
• Maintain documentation related to database configurations, processes, and procedures.
• Mentor junior DBAs and provide technical guidance to cross‑functional teams.
• Pass CJIS Level 4, FBI, and Virginia State Police background checks.

• Strong proficiency in SQL database design and administration, including T‑SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and performance tuning.
• Ability to diagnose, analyze, and resolve complex operational and security issues for Microsoft technologies.
• Knowledge of identity, security, compliance, and Zero Trust concepts within enterprise infrastructure solutions.
• Experience designing and implementing automation to improve operational efficiency and reporting.
• Experience evaluating and implementing platform changes driven by industry, vendor roadmap updates, and business/user requirements.
• Effective communication skills and ability to present findings to diverse teams.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure SQL and AWS RDS.

• Experience as a senior SQL Server DBA in an enterprise production environment.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2019 and newer), including SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
• Experience with high‑availability (HA) and disaster‑recovery (DR) solutions such as Always On, Log Shipping, Geo‑clustering, and Replication.
• Experience with Power Shell or other scripting languages.

• Experience working in higher education.
• Additional duties may be assigned as required.
• Possible assistance to the agency or state government during emergency declarations.
