Job Description

As an Enterprise Data Steward, you will support enterprise data governance and data quality initiatives by partnering with business stakeholders to strengthen data management practices, improve data quality, and enhance data stewardship capabilities across the organization. You will serve as the primary liaison between business divisions and the enterprise data program, guiding stakeholders through governance activities, developing data management artifacts, facilitating training, and ensuring alignment with enterprise data standards and quality objectives.

This role requires strong relationship management, stakeholder engagement, data governance expertise, and the ability to translate complex data concepts into actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned business divisions regarding data stewardship and governance activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders by fostering trust, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Lead discussions with business and technical teams to establish expectations, priorities, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Facilitate regular meetings and working sessions with assigned data stewards to support governance initiatives.
  • Guide stakeholders through data stewardship processes and enterprise data management best practices.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of data governance artifacts including data dictionaries, business rules, metadata definitions, and scoping documentation.
  • Support the preparation and readiness of datasets for enterprise data quality assessments and measurement initiatives.
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentorship to improve data literacy and stewardship competencies across the organization.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, system owners, and business teams to identify and resolve data quality issues.
  • Promote consistent data management practices and adherence to governance standards and frameworks.
  • Coordinate stewardship activities across multiple divisions to ensure alignment with enterprise data objectives.
  • Monitor progress of stewardship deliverables and ensure timely completion of required activities.
  • Maintain organized documentation related to governance processes, data quality efforts, and stewardship activities.
  • Support the implementation and adoption of enterprise data governance tools and processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to data quality, governance, and stewardship programs.
  • Communicate governance priorities, project updates, and data quality outcomes to stakeholders and leadership.
Required Skills, Experiences, Education, and Competencies
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data stewardship, data management, and data quality principles.
  • Proven experience serving as the primary client-facing contact responsible for stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Experience leading stakeholders through structured processes, deliverables, and governance initiatives.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience facilitating meetings, workshops, discussions, and training sessions.
  • Experience developing and maintaining data dictionaries, business rules, metadata definitions, or similar governance documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate activities across multiple business units and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Experience supporting enterprise data quality initiatives and governance programs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build consensus and drive adoption of governance practices across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience collaborating with business users, subject matter experts, data owners, and technical teams.
  • Strong documentation and process management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple ongoing responsibilities.
  • Experience in data governance, data stewardship, master data management, business data analysis, or a related business-facing data role.
  • Commitment to data quality, compliance, and continuous improvement best practices.
  • Familiarity with data governance platforms such as Collibra preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and related collaboration tools preferred.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-wide data governance and data quality programs preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Data Management, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.

The hourly range for roles of this nature are $50.00 to $70.00/hr rates are heavily dependent on skills, experience, location, and industry.
