Role Overview :The Assistant Vice President (AVP), Underwriting - Energy is a market-facing underwriting role responsible for underwriting and managing new and renewal Energy business, developing strong broker relationships, and contributing to the profitable growth and performance of the portfolio, with an initial emphasis on upstream and midstream risks.
The AVP will combine deep technical Energy underwriting expertise with strong commercial judgment and production capabilities to identify, evaluate, price, negotiate, and close complex Energy risks. The role will manage an assigned book, territory, or broker portfolio within established underwriting authority and appetite while maintaining accountability for premium, profitability, retention, rate, new business, and portfolio quality.
This position will also contribute to portfolio management, capacity deployment, and the continued development of Ategrity's Energy capabilities. The AVP will serve as a technical resource, provide coaching and guidance to underwriters, and partner across the organization to strengthen underwriting execution, portfolio analytics, market presence, and long-term profitability.
Key Responsibilities- Underwrite and manage Energy business. Underwrite complex new and renewal accounts within established authority, guidelines, and risk appetite, determining appropriate risk selection, pricing, limits, attachment points, terms, conditions, and coverage structure.
- Own book performance. Manage an assigned book, territory, or broker portfolio to established premium, profitability, retention, rate, and new business objectives while monitoring portfolio mix, concentrations, aggregation, severity exposures, and emerging risks.
- Drive profitable growth. Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities and execute transactions with retail and wholesale brokers while maintaining disciplined risk selection, pricing adequacy, and thoughtful capacity deployment.
- Provide technical underwriting expertise. Personally underwrite complex and high-value Energy accounts and serve as a technical resource on Energy operations, property and casualty exposures, policy forms, coverage structures, pricing, limits, and attachment strategies.
- Lead broker and market development. Develop and strengthen relationships with key retail and wholesale brokers, proactively communicate Ategrity's Energy appetite and capabilities, and identify opportunities to expand relationships, submission flow, and conversion.
- Maintain a strong market presence. Represent Ategrity with brokers, insureds, risk managers, reinsurers, and other industry participants through broker meetings, client engagements, conferences, and market events.
- Support portfolio and capacity management. Analyze portfolio and account performance to identify trends, concentrations, opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action, and support capacity, limits, aggregation, and portfolio protection decisions.
- Maintain Energy industry expertise. Stay current on Energy operations, market conditions, competitive dynamics, loss activity, capacity, emerging exposures, and evolving industry practices, with deep knowledge of upstream and midstream risks.
- Lead and develop underwriting talent. Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical development to underwriters and help build a culture of accountability, collaboration, responsiveness, and underwriting discipline.
- Collaborate across the organization. Partner with Claims, Actuarial, Reinsurance, Risk Engineering, Operations, Product, technology and data resources, and underwriting leadership to support sound underwriting decisions and portfolio performance.
