This position is focused on supporting our regulatory policy analysis and policy advocacy efforts on behalf of Legal, in close partnership with Global Enterprise Affairs (GEA) and other internal and external stakeholders. This is a highly visible role both within the organization and externally, requiring a high degree of maturity and professionalism in interacting with internal subject matter experts and stakeholders across multiple functional areas throughout the firm, as well as externally with industry trade associations and the staff of our key regulatory agencies.
The successful candidate will support Capital One's efforts to design and drive the firm’s advocacy agenda for critical areas of strategic importance. The attorney will play a significant part in proactively engaging with the changing regulatory landscape, ensuring Capital One clearly understands and responds to developments. This includes coordinating with colleagues across Legal and GEA to analyze legislation and proposed regulations, and to develop and advance advocacy strategies.
Finally, the role involves engaging with industry trade associations to ensure Capital One’s priorities are reflected in their efforts.
We are looking for an attorney who is collaborative, inquisitive, and exhibits grounded judgment in novel situations. We want someone with an ownership mentality but who enjoys being part of a team and can interact with and influence across departments and job levels.
Responsibilities- Drive and support regulatory policy analysis and policy advocacy efforts for Legal in partnership with Legal colleagues, GEA, and other key stakeholders.
- Coordinate with colleagues in the Legal Department and GEA to analyze legislation, proposed regulations and other policy developments, and to develop and advance advocacy strategies.
- Engage with industry trade associations in support of Capital One’s strategic priorities.
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
- At least 3 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in‑house legal department, or government agency
- At least 5 years of federal financial services legal counsel experience
- At least 5 years of experience supporting integrated projects or programs where senior leaders and external stakeholders are your customers, including communicating highly sensitive information and allocating resources in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage a large volume of work, including complex legal issues that may arise suddenly
This role is hybrid, meaning associates spend 3 days per week in‑person at one of our beautifully designed offices listed on this job posting.

Salary- McLean, VA: $200,700 - $229,100 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel
- Richmond, VA: $182,500 - $208,300 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel
- Other locations: subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
