Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney

A well-established insurance defense firm is seeking a Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney for its Richmond office.

This is a 100% workers’ compensation defense role supporting a 100–150 file docket with regular hearings before the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission.

We are moving efficiently and can take someone from first conversation to decision within about two weeks.

Responsibilities

• Manage and assist on a robust workers’ compensation defense docket
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, medical summaries, position statements, and settlement documents
• Conduct depositions and prepare for hearings as experience permits
• Attend regular Workers’ Compensation hearings (multiple per month)
• Work directly with experienced partners while building autonomy
• Contribute to case evaluation, negotiation, and settlement evaluations
• Communicate with clients, claims professionals, medical providers, and opposing counsel

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Virginia Bar admission required
• For associate candidates: 1–10 years of Workers’ Compensation defense experience
• For partner candidates: 10+ years of Workers’ Compensation defense experience
• Strong writing, analysis, and file management skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-moving practice
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a heavy workload and multi-task
• Medical background knowledge is a plus
• Deposition and hearing experience preferred

Compensation

• Base salary range: $95,000 – $150,000 plus performance-based bonuses.
• Annual incentives available above 1,850 billable hours.

This role is a litigation-heavy, performance-oriented defense platform designed for attorneys who want courtroom exposure and file ownership.
