Associate Director - Capital Project Procurement Leader
Location:
Richmond, VA or Huntsville, AL. Requires U.S. work authorization.
- Category management including global development, implementation, and management of Lilly’s strategy for the acquisition of engineering and construction services, automation, and capital equipment.
- Lead the review of requirements, development of sourcing strategies, and management of the supplier due diligence process, RFP process oversight, contract negotiation and award, and oversight of the contract management process.
- Negotiate agreements and contracts to minimize costs and risks while achieving project objectives.
- Work with business clients to qualify suppliers, participate in supplier relationship management meetings, conduct spend analysis, market intelligence, and risk management.
- Sourcing for major capital projects (> $5MM) at Lilly’s global manufacturing sites to acquire goods and services ($100MM – $300MM annually).
- Lead procurement management for major/mega projects and programs with greater risk, resource/financial requirements, and/or complexity.
- Assemble procurement strategy for capital projects that ensures delivery of business objectives.
- Lead supplier management to facilitate relationships between internal customers and suppliers.
- Identify and implement cost/risk reduction and avoidance savings opportunities of $5M or more annually.
- Deliver project procurement activities in accordance with Global Procurement procedures with a strong focus on competitive bidding and technical/commercial sources.
- Proven track record in sourcing engineering and construction services, capital equipment and experience with commissioning/qualification.
- Process or plant experience preferred.
- $500MM+ mega capital project support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Certifications:
CIPS / IIPMM / ISM qualification and/or relevant procurement experience. - IT literacy with Microsoft Office suite & SAP/Ariba.
- Ability to influence and negotiate internally and externally.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills, demonstrating knowledge of business.
- Self‑motivated, able to act independently with minimal supervision in a complex multi‑organizational environment while maintaining compliance with policies and procedures.
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Procurement, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain or Business.
- 7+ years of experience in capital construction procurement, including sourcing, negotiating, and managing contracts for engineering, construction, and capital equipment.
- Authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.
Travel requirement: 10% – 25% as needed to support sourcing initiatives and supplier relationship management activities.

The anticipated wage for this position is $127,500 – $187,000 per annum. In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program including 401(k) participation, pension, vacation, medical, dental, vision, prescription drug benefits, flexible spending accounts, life and death insurance, leave, and well‑being benefits. Employees are also eligible for company bonuses based on performance.
