Material Planner — Richmond, VA
Pay: $40.00 per hour
Job Summary:
The Material Planner is responsible for planning and managing inventory to ensure material availability in support of production schedules and customer demand. This role oversees inventory planning, replenishment strategies, and material flow while collaborating with Purchasing and Supply Chain teams to optimize inventory levels and supplier performance. The ideal candidate has strong SAP planning experience, analytical skills, and a background in inventory management within a manufacturing environment.
- Manage end-to-end material planning and inventory replenishment to support production and customer requirements.
- Define and maintain inventory policies based on product segmentation and business requirements.
- Calculate and maintain inventory planning parameters, including safety stock, reorder points, lot sizes, lead times, and replenishment strategies within SAP and other planning systems.
- Monitor inventory levels and analyze potential material shortages to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Generate and manage purchase requisitions and support the procurement process through material availability.
- Collaborate with Purchasing to resolve material shortages and improve supplier performance related to on-time delivery, lead times, quality, flexibility, and minimum order quantities.
- Investigate planning exceptions, resolve system warnings, and adjust SAP planning parameters when appropriate.
- Support internal customer service and production teams by responding to material planning inquiries.
- Analyze inventory and supply chain data to identify trends and recommend process improvements.
- Utilize reporting and analytics tools to support planning decisions and inventory optimization.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in material planning, supply chain, purchasing, or inventory management.
- Experience with SAP MM and PP modules is required.
- Strong knowledge of inventory planning, inventory control, and replenishment strategies.
- Experience managing material shortages and collaborating with suppliers and purchasing teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Experience with Microsoft Power Query, Power BI, and data analysis preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field required.
