Position: Fulfillment Operations Manager

Reports To: CEO / Founder

Compensation: $75,000 annually

Type: Full-Time, Salaried

About the Company

We are a mission-driven company operating two e-commerce brands. Our products make a real difference in people’s daily lives.

We are a startup at heart: small, fast-moving, and built on a culture of autonomy, ownership, and purpose. You’ll work directly with our founder, an experienced entrepreneur with an incredible network, who will be your partner in building something meaningful.

The Opportunity

This is a rare chance to build a fulfillment operation from the ground up. We are consolidating our warehouse operations from two locations (a self-fulfilled operation and a third-party logistics provider) into a single new facility in Richmond, Virginia. The person in this role will be the operational backbone of this transition and the long-term leader of our fulfillment function.

This is not a role where you inherit a running operation and maintain it. This is a role where you design the warehouse, hire the team, help to execute a cross-country move, stand up fulfillment for two brands, and then run it — making it faster, cheaper, and more reliable over time. If you’re the kind of person who wants to own something end to end and build it the right way, this is your role.

What

You’ll DoPhase 1:
Build-Out (Months 1–3)
  • Partner with the CEO and external consultants to design the warehouse layout, including racking, workstations, storage zones, and pick/pack/ship workflows for a high-SKU apparel operation.
  • Select and procure all equipment, fixtures, and supplies needed to outfit the new Richmond facility.
  • Establish carrier accounts, negotiate shipping rates, and set up vendor relationships for packaging and supplies.
  • Evaluate the current technology stack (Shopify + Ship Station) and recommend improvements — including whether a warehouse management system (WMS) is needed to support multi-brand fulfillment at scale.
  • Begin recruiting, hiring, and onboarding a warehouse team. You will build this team from scratch with support from leadership.
  • Coordinate with the existing operation to plan the logistics of a full inventory transfer.
Phase 2:
Migration & Launch (Months 3–6)
  • Execute the physical move of Brand 1’s entire inventory to Richmond.
  • Stand up full receiving, storage, pick/pack/ship, and returns processing workflows.
  • Train and manage warehouse associates to meet fulfillment accuracy and speed targets.
  • Stabilize the operation and achieve consistent service level agreements (SLAs) for order turnaround.
  • Plan and execute the transition of Brand 2 from our third-party logistics provider into the Richmond facility.
  • Manage concurrent fulfillment for two distinct brands with separate product catalogs, packaging, and shipping requirements.
Phase 3:
Steady-State Operations & Optimization (Month 6+)
  • Own day-to-day fulfillment operations for both brands, ensuring orders are picked, packed, and shipped accurately and on time.
  • Manage all inbound receiving — inspecting, counting, and stocking inventory as it arrives from vendors.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts and reconciliation with Shopify.
  • Manage, schedule, and develop the warehouse team. Handle hiring, performance management, and coverage planning.
  • Track and report on key operational metrics including cost-per-order, shipping accuracy, order turnaround time, and inventory variance.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and scale the operation as order volume grows.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for everything that happens inside the four walls of the warehouse.
Who You Are
  • You have 3–7 years of hands-on experience in warehouse operations, fulfillment, or logistics — ideally in an e-commerce or direct-to-consumer environment.
  • You’ve managed a small to mid-size team of warehouse associates and you know how to hire, train, and hold people accountable.
  • You understand the full fulfillment lifecycle: receiving, putaway, inventory management, picking, packing, shipping, and returns.
  • You’re familiar with Shopify and Ship Station (or…
