Director of Environmental Services Richmond, VA

Position:
Director of Environmental Services

Schedule:

Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week; includes weekend and holiday rotation

Overview:
The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for directing and supervising staff in the Housekeeping and Laundry departments. This role provides leadership over daily operations, staff management, compliance, equipment upkeep, and budget control. The Director ensures high-quality service is delivered to residents at all levels of care.

General

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Minimum five years of experience in environmental services management
  • Supervisory experience in hospitals, retirement homes, or nursing home settings preferred

Job Duties:

  • Lead and supervise all staff in Housekeeping and Laundry, enforcing VBH policies and maintaining discipline, morale, and service quality.
  • Delegate responsibilities to department managers, oversee hiring, onboarding, annual training (e.g., Relias), and ensure ontime performance reviews.
  • Manage departmental budgets and expenses - supplies, wages, equipment and prepare monthly financial reports.
  • Maintain, inspect, and replace housekeeping and laundry equipment; coordinate with vendors and maintenance teams.
  • Oversee scheduling, timeclock compliance, attendance, and payroll edits to control overtime and staff coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with facility protocols, safety rules, fire/disaster plans, and regulatory standards (e.g., VA Dept. of Health, DSS, OSHA).
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of resident rooms and common areas to uphold cleanliness and confidentiality standards.
  • Coach and manage staff performance, including conducting disciplinary actions (up to suspension/termination) and recommending promotions or reassignments.
  • Manage recordkeeping for staff files, disciplinary actions, training, and regulatory documentation.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, facility committees, emergency drills, and assume additional duties assigned by management.

Working Conditions:

  • Standard 40-hour work week with weekend and holiday scheduling as needed
  • On-call availability during emergencies or coverage needs
  • Active participation in meetings, committees, and training events
