Senior / Lead Metallurgist – Move into Manufacturing Manager position

Richmond, Virginia - Relocation Assistance Provided

$100,000 – $130,000 + New Industry Training + Succession Planning + Director & VP Progression + Excellent Benefits

Are you a Senior or Lead Metallurgist looking to step into a leadership role and be mentored be an experienced VP, with a clear long-term path toward Director, and VP-level responsibility?

This is a rare succession-planning opportunity within a long-established, stable metal manufacturing business that is continuing to grow and expand into new markets. You’ll be mentored one-on-one by a highly experienced VP, learning the operation end-to-end while gradually taking on increasing managerial and strategic responsibility.

The company is a family-owned metal manufacturer with over 100 years of history, known for long employee tenure, strong internal promotion, and a collaborative, non-corporate culture. They invest heavily in training and are committed to developing future leaders from within.

In this role, you’ll start as the technical authority for metallurgy and materials, while progressively moving into people leadership, operational oversight, and strategic decision-making. Long term, this position is designed to evolve into a Manufacturing Manager role, with further progression to Director and VP level as the business continues to scale.

This role would suit a Senior Metallurgist or Lead Materials Engineer who wants to move beyond a purely technical role and into leadership, while still remaining closely connected to the manufacturing floor and technical decision-making.

The Role:
  • Act as the senior technical authority for metallurgy, alloys, and materials processing
  • Work directly alongside the current VP (retiring June) as part of a structured succession plan
  • Gradually assume responsibility for manufacturing operations, people leadership, and process oversight
  • Support alloy development, process improvements, and technical problem-solving for internal and external customers
  • Manage and develop a small, skilled team of machinists and technicians
The Person :
  • Background in Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Metals Manufacturing
  • Senior or Lead-level technical experience with a desire to move into management
  • Motivated by mentorship, succession planning, and building a lasting career with one business
