Machine Operator, Manufacturing & Industrial Operations
The Forming Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating process specific machines and equipment that convert WIP into finished product. The operator is responsible for running machines to meet established production requirements and for performing activities associated with safe machine operation, set up and changeover, scheduled preventative maintenance and machine service, quality, documentation, housekeeping, and sanitation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Run converting machines at established rates, follow the production schedule, continuously monitor machine performance, and document any variables that may cause machine downtime.
- Complete the process and machine‑specific make‑readies to prepare for machine set up, install machine components, and set up the machine according to product‑specific requirements.
- Perform process‑specific quality checks and make machine adjustments to resolve quality issues.
- Monitor machine operation observing indicators such as lights and gauges to detect malfunctions and troubleshoot to maintain machine operation.
- Perform adjustments and service on machine/equipment as required by specific process.
- Perform preventative and machine‑specific repair/machine service tasks.
- Perform machine‑specific cleaning and service (e.g., maintaining the machine glue system and other process‑specific auxiliary equipment).
- Maintain process‑specific production supplies and materials such as glue, tape, bags and other supplies.
- Assist other operators and relieve line personnel for breaks and lunch.
- Assist in training other process operators and support personnel such as helpers, feeders, and packers.
- Record data on specified forms, complete required line documentation, and communicate production and machine issues to the supervisor and other production personnel.
- Perform housekeeping and machine sanitation requirements.
- Read, understand and comprehend documents such as safety rules, internal quality procedures, and machine operating procedures.
- Work in an environment that may include machine configuration requiring interface with packers and feeders.
- Basic mathematics (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of hand tools and ability to use hand tools.
- Knowledge of machine operation and electronic and/or manual machine controls.
- Ability to communicate production and machine issues to supervisors and others in the work area.
