Description Sheet Metal Helpers assist Sheet Metal Mechanics with fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal products and equipment, such as ductwork, plenums, fire dampers, and diffusers.

** A day in the life:
*** Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment
* Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to product being fabricated
* Locate and mark dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets
* Shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms, using hammer
* Set up and operate soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts together
* Smooth seams, joints, or burred surfaces, using files and portable grinder or buffer
* Install assemblies according to blueprint specifications using tools
* Erect air handling equipment
* Operate shop forklift to lift or transport equipment, material, and supplies as necessary
* Loads and unloads materials from trucks and into buildings
* Furnishes experienced craft worker with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
** You should have:
*** Knowledge of sheet metal industry or willingness to learn
* Ability to work a flexible schedule including unscheduled overtime (nights and weekends)
* Reliable source of transportation to and from work
* Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication)
* Ability to work skillfully and safely with hands
* Maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment
* Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers and other tradesmen
* Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
