Job Overview

Sheet Metal Helper – support sheet metal mechanics with fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal products and equipment including ductwork, plenums, fire dampers, and diffusers.

Location:

Corporate Office, 2820 Ackley Avenue, Richmond, VA 23228.

Environment:
Fabrication shop.

Hours:

6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday–Friday.

• Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment.
• Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to product being fabricated.
• Locate and mark dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets.
• Shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammer.
• Set up and operate soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts.
• Smooth seams, joints or burrred surfaces using files and a portable grinder or buffer.
• Install assemblies according to blueprint specifications using tools.
• Erect air handling equipment.
• Operate shop forklift to lift or transport equipment, material, and supplies as necessary.
• Load and unload materials from trucks and into buildings.
• Furnish experienced craft worker with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.

• Knowledge of sheet metal industry or willingness to learn.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including unscheduled overtime (nights and weekends).
• Reliable source of transportation to and from work.
• Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication).
• Ability to work skillfully and safely with hands.
• Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to work in a team environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers and other tradesmen.
• Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
