The Assistant Operator plays a key role in ensuring efficient and compliant operations on the production line. This position supports machine operators during changeovers, assists with troubleshooting, and may operate machinery when needed. The Assistant Operator is responsible for training new feeder/packers on quality standards and production speed, maintaining accurate records in SAP and on required documentation, and communicating any production or equipment issues to supervisors and team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist the operator with changeover tasks and troubleshoot machine problems to maintain the established production rate.
- Use machine controls to operate the machine if the operator is not available.
- Train new packers on quality and speed.
- Record scrap in SAP.
- Record data on specified forms and complete required line documentation.
- Communicate production and machine issues to the supervisor and other production personnel.
Assist the operator with changeover tasks, troubleshoot machine problems to maintain established production rate.

- Maintain production supplies and materials in the work area.
- Perform housekeeping and machine sanitation tasks to maintain a clean and orderly work area.
- Knowledge of hand tools and ability to use them.
- Knowledge of machine operation and electronic/manual controls.
- Ability to read, understand and apply safety rules, quality procedures, and operating procedures.
- Ability to communicate production and machine issues to supervisors and others.
- Ability to work in an environment that may require interface with packers and feeders.
- Basic mathematics (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Trade school preferred.
Experience:
3+ years of equivalent experience or experience multitasking in a fast‑paced work environment with at least 6 months of machine operator experience.
- Safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and steel‑toed shoes required. Task‑specific PPE may be required.
- Workplace is not environmentally controlled; humidity and temperature changes occur throughout the year.
- Continuous use of hands and fingers to position items and arms to reach as needed.
- Frequent bending, moving about the work area.
- Occasional stationary position, ascending and descending steps, pushing and pulling objects.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
