Sheet Metal Helper
Sheet Metal Helpers assist Sheet Metal Mechanics with fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal products and equipment, such as ductwork, plenums, fire dampers, and diffusers.
Location:
Corporate Office, 2820 Ackley Avenue Richmond, VA 23228.
Environment:
Fabrication Shop.
Hours:
6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, M-F.

A day in the life:
- Operate sheet metal fabrication equipment
- Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to product being fabricated
- Locate and mark dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets
- Shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms, using hammer
- Set up and operate soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts together
- Smooth seams, joints, or burred surfaces, using files and portable grinder or buffer
- Install assemblies according to blueprint specifications using tools
- Erect air handling equipment
- Operate shop forklift to lift or transport equipment, material, and supplies as necessary
- Loads and unloads materials from trucks and into buildings
- Furnishes experienced craft worker with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
You should have:
- Knowledge of sheet metal industry or willingness to learn
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including unscheduled overtime (nights and weekends)
- Reliable source of transportation to and from work
- Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication)
- Ability to work skillfully and safely with hands
- Maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment
- Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers and other tradesmen
- Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
