The Material Handler moves product and material safely and efficiently in the die cutting area, and bailer room using a forklift and other material handling equipment. Also responsible for organization of material & cleanliness of plant floor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operation- Use sit-down forklift, clamp truck (process specific), and manual and/or electric pallet jack as required to safely transport product and material to proper storage areas.
- Correctly band all die cut pallets, on all 3 die cutters.
- Use RF scanner to scan transactions to the system.
- Place an empty gaylord (process specific) for each machine at the start of the shift & during shift as needed.
- Properly band all pallets of scrap and load on designated waste trailers.
- Complete hourly bailer checks to ensure bailers are operating correctly with no issues.
- Load all bails from bailers on designated waste trailers.
- Assist with training new material handling employees.
- Perform and document daily inspection of the forklift and other material handling equipment and follow reporting procedures to communicate and resolve any maintenance or safety issues.
- Record data on specified forms and complete the required documentation for bailers and die cutting areas.
- Perform housekeeping and sanitation tasks to maintain a clean and maintain an orderly work area.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures including GMP, PPE, HACCP, and JSA regulations.
- Responsible for ensuring, where applicable, the product safety, quality, regulatory compliance and legality of all products produced and sold.
- Must successfully complete forklift certification requirements and complete process specific clamp truck certification, as required.
- Able to use RF scanner for WMS transactions and to ensure accuracy of inventory.
- Able to operate manual pallet jack and/or electric pallet jack.
- Able read, understand, and comprehend documents such as Safety Rules, forklift operating and maintenance instructions, material handling, and quality procedure documents. Ability to communicate production and machine issues to supervisors and others in work area.
- Basic mathematics (i.e. counting), basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- High school diploma, but previous work-related skills, knowledge, and experience is needed.
- A minimum of one-year forklift experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and steel-toed shoes are required. In addition, task specific PPE may be required.
- Our Manufacturing plant is not environmentally controlled. Changes in humidity and temperature occur throughout the year.
- Able to continuously use hands and fingers to position items and arms to reach as needed.
- Able to frequently bend, move about the work area.
- Able to occasionally remain in a stationary position, ascend and descend steps, push and pull objects.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Lifting 50 pounds occasionally.
- Work in accordance with all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety and legality, security, and regulatory compliance as applicable.
