Job Description & How to Apply Below

About Us: Kinsley Steel Inc. is a leader in structural steel fabrication, committed to delivering high-quality products and services. We value safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement. We are currently seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Shipping & Receiving Coordinator.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Help keep a busy steel fabrication operation moving safely, accurately, and on schedule. Kinsley Steel, Inc. is seeking a dependable, highly organized Shipping & Receiving Coordinator to connect shop production, material deliveries, trucking, carriers, vendors, and jobsite needs.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Maintain the daily and forward-looking schedule for outbound shipments and incoming deliveries.
  • Coordinate with shop leadership to confirm fabricated material is complete, released, properly identified, staged, and ready to load.
  • Prepare and verify bills of lading, delivery tickets, packing lists, load lists, destinations, appointments, quantities, piece marks, weights, and special jobsite requirements.
  • Receive steel, fabricated components, fasteners, consumables, equipment, and supplies and verify deliveries against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Document and communicate shortages, damage, incorrect material, late deliveries, and schedule conflicts before they disrupt the operation.
  • Enter receipt and shipment information into company systems and maintain accurate, organized records, including proof of delivery.
  • Coordinate safe loading and unloading activities with drivers and authorized forklift, crane, rigging, and shop personnel.
  • Maintain orderly staging, storage, and traffic areas.
  • Support inventory checks and improvements that reduce rehandling, damage, delays, and transportation costs.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in shipping, receiving, logistics, warehousing, material control, manufacturing, construction, or a related field.
  • Experience working with purchase orders, bills of lading, packing lists, delivery documents, quantities, and material identification.
  • Working proficiency with email, spreadsheets, shared schedules, data entry, and ERP, inventory, or logistics systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and communication skills.
  • The ability to remain composed, solve problems, and reprioritize quickly when production or delivery plans change.
  • A safety-first mindset and willingness to work in an active fabrication shop and outdoor yard environment.

EXPERIENCE THAT WILL HELP YOU STAND OUT

  • Experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, fabrication, construction materials, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Experience with Tekla Power Fab or another ERP, MRP, inventory, or transportation platform.
  • Familiarity with load planning, material traceability, fabricated-piece identification, and delivery sequencing.
  • Forklift, overhead crane, rigging, or other material-handling experience. Company training and authorization are required before operating equipment.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Loading, unloading, staging, and traffic activities are coordinated safely.
  • Material counts, identification, destinations, system entries, and shipping documents are accurate.
  • Shipments and receipts are planned ahead, and constraints or changes are communicated early.
  • Drivers, vendors, shop leaders, project teams, and jobsite contacts receive clear and timely information.
  • Material remains protected, traceable, and easy to locate, with orderly staging and storage areas.

SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a full-time, on-site position at the Richmond, VA facility. The role works across an office, active fabrication shop, loading areas, and an outdoor yard. Early starts, schedule adjustments, or limited overtime may be required to support shipping and receiving activities.

With or without reasonable accommodation, the position requires movement throughout shop and yard areas and the ability to occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Every successful shipment begins before the truck arrives. Your planning and attention to detail will help protect our people, keep production flowing, reduce avoidable costs, support our field and project teams, and ensure the right material reaches the right place at the right time.
