Material Handler
Material handlers play a crucial role in facilitating the building process by managing receiving operations and inventory control. They serve as the direct link between vendors and production, ensuring that all materials are received, processed, and delivered to the production line in a timely and accurate manner. Working closely with multiple departments, they help maintain continuous production flow while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.
Sustained work pace, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to process improvement are essential to ensure that production never stops and overall productivity remains high.
Responsibilities
- Receive, transport, store, and replenish materials accurately and efficiently to support building operations.
- Complete inventory transactions correctly and in a timely manner within the inventory management system.
- Support inventory movement between warehouse and production locations to maintain continuous material flow.
- Maintain inventory storage areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition in accordance with company standards.
- Assist with staging materials for production operations to ensure all required components are available when needed.
- Follow established inventory control and material handling procedures to safeguard product integrity and accuracy.
- Identify inventory discrepancies, assist in root cause investigation, and report issues promptly to leadership.
- Support annual physical inventory counts and ongoing inventory improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor in all interactions with internal teams and external partners.
- Assist production teams when needed to support continuous workflow and minimize downtime.
- Help implement process changes that improve inventory accuracy, material flow, and overall operational efficiency.
- Communicate inventory and material concerns proactively to leadership to prevent production delays.
- Support material transfers between facilities when required, ensuring proper documentation and handling.
- Participate in cycle counting activities for assigned product lines to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of product-specific inventory and material handling procedures for assigned lines.
- Support inventory replenishment activities to ensure materials are available for upcoming production needs.
- Use Excel and other tools to perform accurate data entry related to inventory, shipping, and receiving activities.
- Operate forklifts and hoists safely to move, load, and unload materials as needed.
- Perform receiving inspection and verification of incoming materials against documentation and quality standards.
- Support shipping and packaging activities, including assembly line material flow and sealing of packaged products.
- Provide courteous and effective customer service and logistics support to internal stakeholders.
- Apply continuous improvement principles to inventory control, material handling, and related processes.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in shipping and receiving operations.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with warehouse management system (WMS) operations and inventory control.
- Proven experience in logistics support, inventory management, and receiving inspection.
- Forklift certification with multiple years of hands-on forklift operating experience.
- Ability to consistently lift up to 50 lbs to support material handling and movement.
- Experience using Excel for data entry, as well as proficiency with Word and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Positive and ambitious attitude with a strong commitment to teamwork.
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with production, warehouse, and leadership teams.
- Good driving record to support material transfers between facilities when required.
- Understanding of inventory control procedures and material handling best practices.
- Ability to work safely around manufacturing equipment such as hoists and forklifts.
