Kodiak is seeking an experienced Master Scheduler / Production Planner to join our Manufacturing team in Richmond, VA.
In this highly visible role, you'll serve as the central planning authority for our fabrication shop, developing and managing the Manufacturing Production Scheduling System (MPSS). You'll balance customer demand, labor capacity, material availability, and project milestones to ensure fabrication work is completed on time and ready for field installation.
Working closely with Shop Operations, Project Management, Procurement, Engineering, Virtual Design & Construction (VDC), Inventory Planning, and Field Operations, you'll play a critical role in keeping manufacturing and construction projects on schedule.
What You'll Do- Own and manage the Manufacturing Production Scheduling System (MPSS) for all active fabrication work orders and projects.
- Develop production schedules that align customer demand with labor capacity and manufacturing constraints.
- Prioritize fabrication work based on customer commitments, project milestones, material availability, labor resources, and field installation schedules.
- Continuously adjust production schedules to accommodate engineering revisions, material shortages, labor constraints, and changing project priorities.
- Develop labor and capacity planning models to identify bottlenecks, production constraints, and scheduling risks.
- Recommend solutions including resequencing work, overtime, subcontracting, or schedule adjustments.
- Serve as the primary source of truth for manufacturing schedules and production capacity.
- Coordinate with Shop Operations, Fabrication Planners, Inventory Planners, Procurement, Engineering, VDC, Project Managers, and Field Teams.
- Participate in production planning meetings and project look-ahead meetings.
- Ensure fabrication sequencing supports installation schedules and project milestones.
- Build and maintain advanced Excel planning tools, dashboards, labor models, and capacity reports.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve schedule accuracy, production flow, and manufacturing efficiency.
Required
- 3+ years of experience as a Production Planner, Master Scheduler, Production Scheduler, Manufacturing Planner, Capacity Planner, or Production Control Specialist.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial production workflows.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including:
- Pivot Tables
- Capacity Modeling
- Labor Planning
- Dashboards
- Scenario Analysis
- Forecasting
- Experience balancing production schedules, labor capacity, and manufacturing constraints.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make scheduling decisions with incomplete or changing information.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication, pipe fabrication, mechanical construction, or industrial manufacturing.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement.
- Experience supporting made-to-order manufacturing environments.
