This is specialized promotional and marketing work involving planning, coordinating and conducting a variety of marketing and promotional activities. An incumbent researches and recommends the library’s marketing plan for approval by a superior; prepares media releases, kits and public service announcements for local media; coordinates various marketing, communications and fundraising activities; develops a variety of promotional material using camera‑ready graphics, artwork and desktop publishing software and ensures production of same;
establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Considerable independence of judgement and action is exercised within established guidelines. Work performance is reviewed in terms of effective services rendered to the library.
- Researches and recommends the library marketing plan for approval by a superior and implements approved activities; plans and coordinates participation in community events, trade shows, library special events and educational and cultural displays; promotes interest and participation in program activities.
- Assists in the planning and implementation of the digital marketing strategy and content, including social media, in support of library communications.
- Assists in the planning of, and coordinates and implements a variety of communications activities including social media.
- Prepares media releases, kits and public service announcements for local media regarding library programs and activities and distributes same; secures and administers advertising contracts; prepares and places advertisements, as required.
- Attends and participates in staff planning processes and leadership team meetings, as required; provides input on issues related to marketing and communications.
- Assists in the planning of and coordinates and implements fundraising activities; obtains funds and sponsor ships for special events and related programming activities; coordinates corporate partnership arrangements.
- Develops promotional materials such as brochures, newsletters, annual reports, website content, newspaper articles; works with in‑house or contract staff on illustrations, artwork and web product design, text and layout of materials; coordinates the design, production and dissemination of marketing publications; establishes editorial and style guidelines; monitors consistency of all promotional material ensuring adherence to the Library brand.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts and responds to a wide variety of questions; maintains liaison with media contacts.
- Maintains various files and records related to the work; prepares reports, correspondence and related materials; develops marketing budget proposals and monitors and controls same.
- Performs related work as required.
- Diploma in communications, community development, public relations, or a related discipline.
- 1 to 2 years of related work experience.
- Valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
- Familiarity and demonstrated expertise with social media and tools
- Familiarity with Adobe Suite, Cap Cut, Canva, Wordpress and/or similar creative and editing software an asset
- Familiarity with Patron Point, Campaigner, Mail Chimp, or similar e‑newsletter software
- Applicants are required to attach a copy of their Diploma to their application.
- Short‑listed candidates may be required to provide a portfolio of relevant marketing and communications work at the interview stage.
Re‑assignments of weekly schedule or daily shift and/or location will take place as operational needs dictate. The initial schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday 9:00 am-4:30pm
- Thursday 9:00 am-4:30pm
- Friday 9:00 am-4:30pm
- Saturday 9:45 am-5:15pm
Sunday and Mondays are rest days.
Rate of Pay$38.19 – $44.93 per hour
