Position Summary
The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in connecting community members with opportunities to support CARITAS through volunteer service and in‑kind donations. Each year, CARITAS benefits from the generosity of more than 1,000 volunteers and receives more than $1 million in donated goods to sustain its programs. To ensure resources are used effectively, the Coordinator must have a comprehensive understanding of how volunteers and supplies contribute to our life‑changing recovery and shelter programs—directing support where and when it is needed most.
Key Responsibilities Community Engagement- Maintain active relationships with the local faith community, nearby colleges and universities, community organizations, businesses, and other community members.
- Table and attend community events to share information about volunteer opportunities and serve as an ambassador of CARITAS.
- Serve as a welcoming point of contact for all scheduled volunteer activities and tours.
- Maintain a spirit of hospitality for those who engage with CARITAS both onsite and in the community.
- Serve as backup support to the front desk, offering a welcoming first point of contact for visitors, volunteers, donors and community partners.
- Thrive in high‑energy, mission‑driven settings, particularly during volunteer events and community events, maintaining engagement, organization, flexibility and attention to detail.
- Manage volunteer databases, including scheduling, reporting, and automated communications with volunteers.
- Manage volunteers involved in sorting and organizing in‑kind donations, as well as supporting and overseeing volunteer events.
- Gather feedback from volunteers to improve their experience.
- Oversee national Service Enterprise recertification.
- Collaborate with program staff to understand what supplies and support are needed.
- Track donor information, manage inventory of program supplies, and record the distribution of donated items to the appropriate CARITAS program.
- Direct and manage the large volume of inquiries and incoming in‑kind donations to match the organization’s most critical needs in a timely manner.
- Support marketing and communications by collecting photos and stories of volunteer experiences for social media and other platforms.
- Support events such as fundraisers, recovery and participant celebrations, and volunteer events. (Includes some evening and weekend hours.)
Must have reliable transportation and have knowledge of all federal, state, and local compliance and safety regulations. The ability to work with contractors and outside suppliers and work well with CARITAS’ client population are necessary. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
- An interest and desire to work in human services to help lift people beyond their current circumstances.
- An understanding of the underlying causes of homelessness and addiction is preferred.
- Flexibility to work evening or weekend hours to accommodate events and volunteer availability.
- Strong dedication to serving the community and creating a welcoming and supportive environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with volunteers, community partners, and team members.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects with grace and patience.
- Demonstrates strong ethics, proactive problem‑solving, and a high level of professional integrity. Utilizes sound judgment to make independent decisions quickly when needed.
- Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, including comfort with public speaking and the ability to convey information clearly, confidently, and consistently across diverse audiences.
- Enthusiasm for using technology such as Google workspace and websites to proficiently collect and share information.
- Experience managing and working with volunteers is a plus.
