Position Summary:

Elijah House Academy (EHA) is a diverse and Christ-centered school community that currently serves over 185 students, transitional kindergarten through eighth grade. After more than three decades of storied work with the children of Richmond, EHA finds itself in a dynamic moment. We are actively growing enrollment. We are also years into a shift in pedagogy associated with the renewal of our educational philosophy, influenced by both classical and Charlotte Mason approaches.

Finally, we recently wrapped up a major capital campaign and construction project for a 12,000 square foot multipurpose building.

The Development Manager is a team-leader position in the development office whose primary focus is administrating annual fund donations and its sources, coordinating volunteers, communicating print and digital pieces to donors, and orchestrating events.

As an organizer of people, the Development Manager orchestrates meaningful experiences for the first-time donor and empowers the high-capacity volunteer to play a meaningful role in that process. As a champion of high-capacity volunteers, the Development Manager understands that volunteers are the driving force behind your success. It is critically important that the Development Manager recognizes the importance of distributing leadership across a team of enthusiastic and talented volunteers in order to ensure efforts are accomplishing their goals from year to year.

The Development Manager develops a deep appreciation for the new donor's role in an overall fundraising strategy. With every gift that is acknowledged, beginning with the very first gift, the donor should be extended an invitation to transition into a more meaningful relationship with EHA.

This is a full-time, 12-month position, typically 8-4:30.

Qualifications:
  • Agree with the EHA statement of religious beliefs

  • Hold at least a bachelor's degree with a preference for a focus in marketing or communications
  • Have experience in a development office (preferable)
  • Protect EHA privileged information
  • Model servant leadership, grace and love in all relationships and interactions
  • Develop relationships with colleagues with goals of teamwork, relational unity, spiritual growth and loyalty in action and word
  • Provide team support regarding all matters, processes and initiatives
  • Assist team members to facilitate school-wide wins
  • Assume collaborative responsibility for operating plan goals and fiscal stewardship

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee donation administration
    • Donor data entry, gift tracking, and recognition
    • Review and report on donor data
    • Administer NAP and EISTCP tax credits (shared)
  • Inspire and Coordinate Volunteers
    • Understand the landscape of volunteer opportunities at EHA
    • Advertise and connect remarkable volunteers to opportunities
    • Track, oversee, and manage volunteer experiences, relationships and appreciation
    • Administer volunteer applications and background checks
    • Seek out new sources of funding and partnership among individuals, foundations, and churches
  • Communicate with the donor community
    • Create and distribute quarterly newsletter and monthly e-newsletters
    • Create, with advancement team, the annual stewardship report (and distribute), annual fund plan, year-end plan, and communication plan
    • Update development and employment opportunities on the website
    • Other donor/community mailings
    • Manage EHA photography and videos (limited)
    • Coordinate creation of videos when needed
    • Order printing materials and supplies
  • Events and Special Initiatives
    • Partner Day
    • Other, as lead by volunteers and your team
  • Assisting a homeroom teacher with morning discipleship and student mentoring
